Rab Atmos Maya Jacket
3rd Nov 2014
Introduction
I'll dispense with the intro about lightweight gear as it's a recurring theme in many of my reviews. Suffice to say that this one fits the bill neatly. A minimalist waterproof jacket weighin in at a paltry 300g and packing up into a fist sized ball, it's another item suitable for mountain marathons, cragging, cycling etc.
The Material
It's what Rab call 3G Pertex Shield. Don't mistake this for the original Pertex stuff that sleeping bag bags are made of, this is thicker, more waterproof, and far heavier duty, but without the same bulk as the multi-layered Goretexes of the world. In practice it keeps out the wind and rain quite effectively whilst on the move, but wou;dn't be my choice for a Duke Of Edinburgh trudge through the Welsh rain.
Features
It doesn't have many. There's a basic hood which will fit over a helmet, with a non adjustable stiff peak, an elasticated neck cord, and a tiny plastic buckle to allow you to roll it up (this also doubles as a hanging loop). There are two zipped pockets, high on the chest to allow you to wear a harness and still us them. There is an elasticated draw card around the waist and a full length zip. The zip baffles and one or two other bits are reflective.
Summary
As a lightweight waterproof it's hard to beat for use on the go. Comes in lime, blue or grey. Retails at £170.
