Scottish Island Bagging
13th Sep 2021
This is one of my favourite books of the year. A beautifully illustrated guide to around 150 of Scotland's outstanding islands. Whilst it doesn't cover every single island, it features all of those you've likely heard of plus a good number that you won't have. They are arranged by group or archipelago rather than simply alphabetically (though of course there's an index). Each island features a short description, usually with some pointers on what to do and see there, often with basic walks described (though the walks are not detailed). The pictures, as you'd imagine, are simply amazing. More turquoise water and white sand beaches than you can shake a stick at, and enough wildlife photos to keep you hungry for sightings of otters, orcas and whales. If you have time on your hands, or can take advantage of good weather windows when they occur, then you'd be hard pushed to find a better place to head for a few weeks and simply explore.
Published by and available at Vertebrate Publishing for £14.39 (RRP £17.99).
